While Techo International Airport was preparing for its opening in 2025, Plaza Premium Lounge in the airport adopted hand-tufted carpets from SINICO. We made exclusive custom designs for different areas, bringing an overall high-end, clean and comfortable look.Lounge 1 uses light-grey carpets with golden dot patterns. The soft texture balances the sharp, cold feeling of metal tables and chairs. The carpets are perfect for passengers to rest, chat and have simple business discussions.The corridor areas are paved with black-and-white ink-style marble patterned carpets. The smooth lines visually lengthen the narrow passage space. Meanwhile, the carpets are stain-resistant and wear-resistant, very suitable for high-frequency walking areas.
Lounge 2 features custom olive-green carpets with rainforest and mountain scenery patterns, showing the of Cambodia. Adopting embossed weaving technology, the carpets have rich layers. They perfectly integrate local natural scenery and regional culture into the indoor space, creating a quiet and premium atmosphere.
All carpets are hand-tufted, delivering exceptional underfoot comfort and resilience against sustained foot traffic and repeated luggage transit—key performance requirements for high-capacity airport environments. The overarching design draws inspiration from Angkor-era aesthetics and Cambodia’s distinctive geographical character, resulting in a unified, high-caliber spatial experience. This project exemplifies the integration of Chinese-made premium architectural materials into strategic infrastructure developments across Southeast Asia, underscoring both technical excellence and cross-cultural design sensitivity.
Techo International Airport is a 4F-grade major international airport in Cambodia and a key Belt and Road project co-built by China and Cambodia. The project started construction in 2020, with the first-phase investment exceeding 2.3 billion US dollars. It finished all opening preparations in 2025 and officially opened on September 9, completely replacing the old Phnom Penh Airport.
The airport is constructed in three phases. The first phase is equipped with a 4000-meter ultra-long runway, an integrated terminal building and 32 boarding bridges, with an annual passenger throughput of 13 million. When fully completed in the future, its maximum annual passenger capacity will reach 50 million, capable of receiving large aircraft including A380. Designed by a world-famous design firm, the terminal dome adopts traditional Cambodian bamboo weaving elements, combining beautiful appearance with green and energy-saving performance.
Early Design and Material Selection
On-site Survey and Demand Confirmation
The total carpet paving area of the Plaza Premium Lounge is 216.20 square meters, divided into three core areas: pedestrian corridors, rest and negotiation lounge (Lounge 1), and Lounge 2.
According to the actual operating environment of the airport, we fully considered all core usage needs;
Safety: Meet airport B1 flame retardant and anti-static standards;
Durability: Resist long-term pedestrian stepping and luggage rolling, not easy to flatten or shed;
Environmental adaptability: Resist mildew and moisture, and avoid fading under Cambodia’s high temperature and high humidity climate;
User experience: Quiet walking performance, good stain resistance, easy to clean coffee and drink stains;
Aesthetic matching: Consistent with the terminal’s bamboo-weave dome style, Khmer rainforest elements and Angkor cultural design.

Design:Easing the cold texture of metal furniture,the thickened pile ensures low noise, ideal for rest and business talks;

Material：Hand-tufted carpet with 70% wool, 20% tencel and 10% fiber ；
Patterns：Custom olive-green rainforest and landscape patterns restore the local natural style of Cambodia and echo the terminal’s cultural design. Adopting layered three-dimensional weaving, the whole carpet is seamless and presents delicate and high-end texture. It matches perfectly with wall murals and curved ceilings, becoming the iconic landscape flooring of the entire lounge.
Sampling, Approval and On-site Implementation
We produced 1:1 physical samples for each zone, and adjusted colors repeatedly according to on-site lighting, wood veneer and ceiling materials to ensure unified overall style.
Complete test reports on flame retardancy, environmental protection, wear resistance and mildew resistance were provided, passing both infrastructure and fire safety audits of the airport.
We finally delivered detailed CAD paving drawings with accurate marks of carpet sizes, splicing positions, edge finishing and furniture alignment, ensuring precise on-site construction results.

Standard Custom Carpet Production Stage
Yarn Pre-treatment Process
We strictly blend raw materials with a fixed ratio: 70% wool, 20% Tencel and 10% functional synthetic fiber. The wool is degreased and treated with flame-retardant soaking. Tencel fiber is modified to be moisture-proof and antibacterial. Anti-static masterbatch is added to synthetic fiber for better daily performance.
For color fixation, we use high-performance reactive dyes specially for aviation materials. The yarn is processed under high temperature and high pressure at 130°C, reaching a color fastness of Level 4 or above. This ensures the carpet will not fade under long-term strong ultraviolet radiation in tropical climates.
All yarns go through multi-layer twisting treatment to improve tensile strength, effectively preventing snagging, pilling and pile flattening during long-term use.
Carpet Weaving & Forming
Manual gun-stitch carpet weaving production line: Based on the confirmed CAD drawings, the digital layout is carried out. The three-dimensional relief areas are gun-stitched layer by layer, creating customized textures with different levels of pile; the entire piece is woven at one time, minimizing on-site stitching seams to the greatest extent.

Functional Finishing & Quality Inspection
The entire surface is coated with a permanent anti-fouling coating, which is cured at high temperature to lock the color and prevent stains;
The antibacterial and mold-preventing impregnation treatment is applied, suitable for the high-humidity environment in Cambodia, to inhibit the growth of mold;
Three comprehensive inspection processes: appearance pattern alignment inspection, wear resistance and tensile strength test, and flame retardant and anti-static sampling inspection, and a single batch quality inspection report is issued;
Zone-independent packaging: the moisture-proof plastic packaging box for square carpets, the large-area hand-woven carpet wrapped with buffer protection film, zone-specific marking to avoid transportation confusion, bumps, scratches and damage to the pile surface.
Pre-protection for Cross-border Logistics
To adapt to the high-temperature and humid maritime shipping conditions in Cambodia, we add vacuum moisture-proof film and reinforced wooden frames for outer packaging. Desiccants are placed inside every carton to stop dampness and mold during sea transportation. Meanwhile, a full set of material test reports and fire qualification documents are delivered with the goods.
On-site Construction & Implementation Stage (Base treatment, zoned installation, finished product protection and project acceptance)
Base Surface Pre-treatment Before Installation
We clear the entire construction area, polish and remove all dust, oil and dirt from the original floor. Special tropical moisture-proof treatment is carried out: we apply professional moisture-proof primer and lay silent buffer pads to block ground moisture and prevent carpet mildew. The floor flatness is strictly calibrated, with the height difference controlled within 2mm, effectively avoiding partial carpet wear and bulging after installation.

We adopt edge-locking splicing technology and use eco-friendly glue for dot fixing, which will not damage the original floor. Expansion joints are reserved to adapt to thermal expansion and contraction in tropical climates. Reinforced edge trim is installed at corridor corners and entrances to prevent carpet edge warping caused by luggage friction.
Lounge Hand-tufted Carpet Construction
We mark the positions of tables, chairs and partitions strictly according to construction drawings, and cut the whole carpet accurately to minimize splicing seams. All joints are thermally sealed for a seamless finish to avoid yarn snagging during walking. Metal trim strips are installed along walls, bar counters and glass partitions, ensuring neat edges and effectively preventing carpet curling.
On-site Finished Product Protection & Final Acceptance
After carpet installation, the entire floor is fully covered with waterproof and dust-proof protective film. Construction barriers are set up to isolate on-site construction activities and prevent carpet scratches during furniture delivery.
All soft furnishings are moved with cushion protection, and protective pads are placed under furniture bases to avoid pressing and damaging the carpet pile.
We implement phased acceptance inspection: base surface inspection → installation flatness inspection → pattern alignment inspection → on-site recheck of fire resistance and environmental performance.
Complete project completion documents are delivered, including installation drawings, carpet material test reports, construction photos and videos, and zoned dimension files.

Standard Daily Cleaning Solution (Adapted to 24-hour airport operation)
Daily basic cleaning
After morning and evening rush hours, we use high-power industrial vacuum cleaners to clean the entire carpet area, focusing on dust, sand and debris brought by luggage wheels in corridors, as well as food crumbs in lounge areas. Coffee, juice and drink stains are wiped timely. Thanks to the carpet’s permanent anti-stain coating, daily dirt can be removed easily.
Zoned cleaning frequency
Corridor tile area: vacuum every day, partial wet cleaning every week.
Lounge area: vacuum every day, deep dry cleaning every two weeks, which protects the handcrafted embossed texture from fading and pile flattening.
Regular Professional Maintenance
Monthly care: Professional mite removal and antibacterial spray treatment to adapt to Cambodia’s humid climate and prevent mold and odors.
Quarter: This special wool care agent nourishes the pile of the carpet, preventing it from collapsing due to prolonged trampling, and restoring the soft texture of the carpet.
Yearly maintenance: Comprehensive deep cleaning, inspection of the base and back moisture-proof layer, repair of minor loose lines and frayed edges.
Damage rapid repair and replacement mechanism
Corridor Carpet：For worn areas, burn marks or heavy stains, single-piece replacement can be completed within 24 hours. No need to close the lounge or affect airport operation.
Hand-woven carpet
Minor wire entanglement and loose threads can be fixed by manual weaving at home; for large-scale damage, the original factory patterns can be retrieved, and the damaged area can be replaced with a new piece of fabric for seamless repair; if the entire carpet is aging, it can be replaced with a new carpet of the same style according to the original drawing.
Long-term Operation and Maintenance Value-added Services
Provide exclusive maintenance manuals and conduct training for airport cleaning staff on basic cleaning and emergency decontamination procedures;
Conduct a comprehensive carpet inspection once a year: wear resistance, moisture-proof layer, flame retardancy, color fastness;
Establish project-specific material inventory, retain archives of the same type of yarn and patterns for a long term, ensuring no color difference in maintenance and patching within 5 years;
Issue an annual carpet wear assessment report, plan replacement cycles in advance, and reduce the one-time large-scale renovation costs.
